F.A.Qs

What is a zine?
A zine (fan magazine) is an unofficial collection of art and written pieces, compiled into book form and often accompanied with physical merchandise.

What is the theme for this zine?
The theme for Sincerely Yours will be focused on relationship stages between Miya Atsumu and Sakusa Kiyoomi — from first impressions and becoming smitten to break ups and make ups. The content will feature both AU and canon works, and will be presented in chronological order through the different stages.

What are the zine specifications?
The project will be both for profit and charity, with 25% of sales going to charity. The charity chosen by the team is the Colon Cancer Prevention Project, an accredited charity by the Better Business Bureau.

The physical zine will be B5, full color, perfect bound, portrait orientation in CMYK format with 300 dpi.

The content will be SFW (rated G to M), with no NSFW add-on being planned at this time.

What are the calendar details?
The 2023 calendar project will run concurrent alongside the zine and feature SFW work from 13 artists and 4 writers. It will be available to purchase separately or paired as a zine bundle.

Will the mods also be contributing?
The mods are welcome to contribute to the zine and calendar should their schedules allow for it.

How will contributors be compensated?
All participants will receive digital copies of the zine, calendar and merchandise designs (including any stretch goals, regardless if they are met or not).

The next step depends solely on the success of the sales, and would consist of free physical copies of the zine and/or calendar with shipping included. As the zine and calendar are separate projects, physical copies can only be sent to the staff/contributors who work on them. Zine, calendar and merch packs will also be available at production cost for any contributors/staff.

Any remaining profits will be divided evenly amongst the contributors, who will have the option to forego their share towards the charity or towards the rest of the contributors.

Should it happen that any remaining profit is not substantial enough to divide amongst the contributors, we will discuss about donating the entirety of the remainder to charity.

Will other characters be featured in the zine?
Background cameos will be allowed, but the main focus will be between the characters Miya Atsumu and Sakusa Kiyoomi.

What are the application requirements?
All participants must be over the age of 18 and must obtain a Discord account as this will be the main form of communication and required for check-ins. Applicants may apply to the zine if they will be turning 18 before the concept check is due (Nov 22, 2021). Discord access will be granted once the applicant has turned 18.

Further guideline details will be posted when the contributor applications open.

How many contributors will you be accepting? Will I be able to apply for more than one contributing position?
Between the zine and calendar we will be looking for 25 artists, 11 writers and 5-8 merch artists, but this is subject to change depending on the number of applicants we receive.

Applicants are welcome to apply for multiple roles (for example, zine merch artist and calendar writer).

Please note, however, that any potential compensation from profits will still count as going towards one contributor.

Will you have guest contributors?
We are planning for a few, stay tuned!

How much will the zine / calendar be sold for?
We have some rough estimates as the final pricing will depend on the number of contributors who apply and what kind of merch the artists will decide to provide.

Digital Zine - $10-15

Physical Zine - $20-25

Calendar - $15-20

Merch bundles will start at $15-20 extra and then may increase accordingly depending on how it is being bundled.

We are planning to have some stretch goals as well. These prices do not include shipping costs.

Where is this shipping from?
Shipping will be from the US, through USPS in Illinois. We will ship worldwide, provided your country is not currently restricting international mail acceptance. Group orders are more than welcome.

What are some ways I can be financially covered when dealing with zines and group orders?
A general best practice is to do all your transactions through PayPal, as you can file a claim through them should you never receive your goods. However PayPal has a limited window of time in which you can file a claim, and in the cases of zines — several months may pass from the preorder period to the fulfillment stage.

Therefore for extra security, you should always pay for goods through PayPal using your credit card or bank account (not via PayPal balance or by transferring funds to your PayPal account). When you pay by PayPal through your credit card or bank, this is also recorded as a transaction through them. So if the situation arises where you are no longer able to file a claim through PayPal, you will be able to do so through your credit card or bank for a much longer period of time (usually one year).

Also, never pay for a group order using the Friends and Family option as this will not be considered as a transaction and have no PayPal Buyer Protection. It is better to chip in a little more and cover the PayPal fees than lose the protection completely. Please use your best judgment when making purchases, and stay safe, everyone!

How many art pieces are artists required to submit?
Three pieces of art are required, with at least one work featuring both Sakusa Kiyoomi and Miya Atsumu.

Will artists be able to work on both the calendar and zine?
Yes! You will be able to indicate this in your application.

Will I be able to apply for more than one role?
Yes! For example, you can apply as a writer for the calendar and also as a merch artist, though we may only choose you for one role.

Will artists and writers have the opportunity to collaborate if they wanted to?
Yes! You will be able to indicate if you are interested in this in your application.

What's the basic criteria for the art/fic we need to submit?
Please visit Portfolio Guidelines for specifications.

Are you accepting pinch hitters?
Yes!

Will there be a separate application for pinch hitters?
No. You will be able to indicate if you are interested in being a pinch hitter in your application.

How will applicants be judged?
Applicants will be rated and voted upon by the mod team, and will be accepted based on overall ratings.

Are all the mods included in the judging process?
All mods are welcome to participate in the voting.

What is the maximum word count for writers?
Zine writers will be expected to write a piece no longer than 2,000 words. Calendar writers will be expected to write a piece no longer than 500 words.

What happens if someone has the same idea/concept as me?
Mods will assign pitches to all contributors to avoid this issue.

What will the compensation be?
As of October 2021, there is a global supply chain crisis which has caused shipping prices to have become astronomical. Please note that this will greatly affect our production costs if it continues into spring 2022. We will be doing our best to provide a physical copy of whichever project the contributor is working on (zine or calendar or both). Shipping costs included would be the next tier we aim for. Merch packs will be available at production cost if they are not able to be included.
